RENO, Nev. - Nevada completed a three-game sweep of San Diego State with an 11-4 victory over the Aztecs in the final contest in their weekend series in Reno Sunday afternoon. The loss left the Aztecs with a record of 25-11 overall and 10-8 in the Mountain West.
The Wolf Pack (19-14, 11-7 MW) took control of the game early, scoring five runs over the first three innings against SDSU starting pitcher Mark Seyler. The sophomore right-hander would pitch into the fifth inning, but not before surrendering two more runs. He would exit the contest after 4.1 innings allowing seven runs on nine hits along with a walk and four strikeouts, taking the loss to fall to 5-3 on the season.
Nevada's four-run fifth inning gave the home side a 9-1 lead after the Aztecs had scored once in the top of the fourth. That run came on a double by Ty France, who scored on an RBI single by Seby Zavala to make it 5-1 at the time.
France would be involved in all four of San Diego State's runs on the day as he scored three and drive in one. He finished with a 4-for-4 afternoon at the plate with three doubles.
In the top of the sixth he led off with a double and scored on a single by Danny Sheehan. After Nevada scored twice in the seventh to make it 11-2, France doubled in the eighth to drive home Tim Zier, then scored later in the inning on a ground out to shortstop by Sheehan.
Nevada's starting hurler, Jason Dietrich, would get credit for the win to even his record at 1-1. The right-hander went 6.0 innings allowing two runs on six hit with a walk and a strikeout.
San Diego State will now return home for a non-conference game on Tuesday, Apr. 15, when it hosts UC Riverside at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
