RENO, Nev. - Nevada put up five runs in the opening inning and two pitchers limited San Diego State to five hits on the day as the Wolf Pack defeated the Aztecs, 8-0, Saturday afternoon at Peccole Park in Reno. Following Friday night's loss, it marked the first time this season that SDSU had lost back-to-back games as it saw its record drop to 25-10 overall and 10-7 in the Mountain West.

Aztec redshirt freshman Cody Thompson made his first start of the season it proved memorable for all the wrong reasons. The right-hander faced seven batters in the bottom of the first and surrendered the five runs on two singles, three doubles and a walk. He would be charged with the loss to fall to 4-2 on the year.

Nevada starter Michael Fain, meanwhile, scattered five hits over his 7.2 innings of work as he walked none and struck out six. With the win he upped his season record to 4-2. Reliever Mark Nowaczewski tossed the final 1.1 innings allowing no hits with a walk and a strikeout.

The Wolf Pack (18-4, 107 MW) added a pair of runs (one earned) in the fourth against SDSU's Mike Robards, who had come on in the bottom of the third in relief of TJ Kendzora. RoBards would allow one more run in the seventh for the final 8-0 score line.

SDSU's best chance to get on the board came in the top of the sixth when Greg Allen and Tim Zier singled to lead off the frame. But Fain then got a double play and a pop out to first to end the threat.

Allen would finish with three of the Aztecs' five hits (all singles) in the contest with Zier and Brad Haynal accounting for the other two.

San Diego State and Nevada will wrap up their weekend series on Sunday, Aor. 13, with a contest set to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Reno.
