SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore right-hander Mark Seyler tossed eight innings of shutout ball and San Diego State got some early run production as it blanked Nevada, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. With the victory the Aztecs won the series over the Wolf Pack and marked the fourth series win in four attempts in 2014.

The result allowed the Aztecs to improve to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the Mountain West as they finished the weekend in third place in the conference standings. Nevada saw its record fall to 6-9 (3-6 MW).

San Diego State struck early against Wolf Pack starter Trenton Brooks. After Greg Allen was hit by pitch and Tim Zier walked, Ty France singled to drive Allen home. France, however, was thrown out at second on the play with Zier winding up at third. Seby Zavala then singled through the right side to give the Aztecs a 2-0 lead.

That would end Brook's afternoon as faced just four batters, and he would eventually take the loss to drop to 0-1 on the season.

Seyler, meanwhile, was firmly in control during his time on the mound as he limited the Wolf Pack to just three hits over his eight innings of work. He would walk three and strike out five, but the visitors had a man reach as far as second base only once over the first eight frames. The effort earned him his third win of the year as he upped his record to 3-1.

France provided an insurance run for SDSU with his third home run of the season, a towering solo blast in the bottom of the eighth to make 3-0.

When Seyler walked the leadoff batter in the top of the ninth, the Aztecs called on Michael Cederoth to close out the contest. The junior responded by retiring three of the four batters he faced to record his sixth save of the season and second in two days.

France was the lone player in the game to finish with two hits (single, double) as he also drove in two of his team's three runs.

San Diego State will next be on the road for a mid-week contest as it travels north to face Cal State Northridge on Tuesday, Mar. 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Matador field.
