TARZANA, Calif. - The San Diego State women's golf team completed its second tournament of the spring season on Tuesday, finishing in 13th place with a combined total of 938 at the fifth annual Bruin Wave Invitational at El Caballero Country Club. The 44th-ranked Aztecs were unable to gain ground from the previous day after posting a collective 28-over 316 during the final round on the par-72, 6,173-yard course layout.

Individually, SDSU was led by Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden), who posted a 54-hole total of 9-over 225 to finish in a tie for 16th place. The Aztec sophomore was even through 13 holes, but ran out of steam, carding a double-bogey at No. 6 and bogey on No. 9 en route to a 75. Despite the stumble, Henrikson managed to climb five spots on the individual leaderboard for her fifth top-20 finish in six starts this season.

The remainder of the SDSU contingent struggled on Tuesday as four golfers combined for just three birdies. Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) was the Aztecs' next highest finisher, tying for the 45th position at 19-over 235. The SDSU freshman got off to a dubious start with six bogeys over her first seven holes and could not recover, settling for an 82, which dropped her 14 places out of the 31st spot.

Conversely, Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.) managed to climb nine slots into a tie for 52nd despite firing a 78 during the final round. The Aztec junior drained a birdie on her second hole of the day, the par-4 11th, but seven bogeys, including three straight on Nos. 13-15, thwarted any further progress up the ladder.

Meanwhile, Maria Fernanda Villegas (Ensenada, Mexico) slipped four places into a tie for 58th at 24-over 240 following an 81 on Tuesday. The SDSU freshman sank a birdie on the par-4 No. 5, which played as the eighth-toughest hole during the final round, but could not sustain the good fortune, finishing with three straight bogeys along with a double-bogey.

Rounding out the Aztec delegation was senior Maureen Dunnagan (Lexington, S.C.), who posted an 88 on Tuesday, completing tournament in a tie for 84th at 262.

Bolstered by the three top individual finishers, No. 1 USC (-1) captured the team title by a comfortable margin over co-hosts Pepperdine (+12) and UCLA (+22), followed by Arizona (+35) and Oklahoma State (+39). The Women of Troy's Kyung Kim (-3) held on to claim medalist honors, edging teammates Annie Park (-2) and Doris Chen (-2) by one shot.

San Diego State will have two-and-a-half weeks to prepare for its lone home tournament of the season, when it plays host to the second annual SDSU Farms Invitational, March 24-26, at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
