STANFORD, Calif. - Battling rainy conditions, the San Diego State men's golf team slipped five notches into 12th place on Saturday after firing a collective 19-over par 299 during the second round of The Goodwin at Stanford Golf Course. With their effort, the Aztecs find themselves five strokes out of eighth place at 20-over 580, trailing Northwestern (+15) and Mountain West foes Fresno State (+15), Colorado State (+17) and UNLV (+18) on the par-70, 6,727-yard course layout.

Riccardo Michelini (Carpi, Italy) posted the Aztecs' lowest round of the day, firing a 73 to jump 13 spots into a tie for 53rd at 7-over 147. Despite three bogeys and a double-bogey on the par-4, 365-yard No. 9, the SDSU sophomore minimized the damage with five pars and two birdies on the back nine, including one on the par-3 17th, where he made bogey on Friday.

The rest of the Aztec lineup was unable to make significant progress, if at all, on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Ricky DeSantis (Carlsbad, Calif.) suffered the most precipitous drop of the day, falling out of the second position into a tie for 32nd at 3-over 143, following a second-round 78. The Carlsbad High product got off to a fast start with a birdie on hole 1, but consecutive double-bogeys at Nos. 5 and 6 derailed his momentum. DeSantis tried to rebound with birdies at No. 9 and No. 15, but the sting of a triple-bogey on the par-4, 351-yard 11th proved too much to overcome.

Also landing in the 32nd spot was Xander Schauffele (San Diego, Calif.), who tumbled out of a tie for 17th after shooting a 74 on Saturday. Despite a team-best 14 pars, the SDSU junior found birdies elusive on his scorecard, recording four bogeys, including a back-to-back sequence at Nos. 4-5.

Meanwhile, Austin Kaiser (Atascadero, Calif.) matched Schauffele with a second-round 74, but only made a modest gain up the ladder, climbing eight places into a tie for 78th at 11-over 151. The Aztec senior offset three bogeys on the front nine with a pair of birdies, but suffered four straight bogeys immediately after the turn to quash his advance. Still, Kaiser managed to finish strong with a birdie at No. 14 followed by four consecutive pars.

Rounding out the SDSU delegation was redshirt freshman Gunn Yang (Pyeong Chang, South Korea), who dropped into 87th at 14-over 154 following an 81 on Saturday. After making par on the first hole, Yang was experienced difficulty with a triple-bogey and double-bogey on Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, and could not recover.

Host Stanford (-11) maintained its perch atop the team standings, while fellow Pac-12 members UCLA (-5), Oregon (-2), Washington (-1) and USC (+3) remain in pursuit mode. The Cardinal also boast the individual leader in Patrick Rodgers (-8), who owns a three-stroke advantage over fellow teammate Maverick McNealy (-5) and Rico Hoey of USC (-5), while Oregon's Brandon McIver (-4) and Jack Perry of Northwestern (-3) comprise the rest of the top five.

The Goodwin concludes with the final round of competition on Sunday as the Aztecs are slated to tee off alongside Colorado State and UNLV on hole No. 10, beginning at 8 a.m. PT.
