SAN DIEGO - The No. 19 San Diego State women's water polo team lost to No. 8 Princeton, 7-4, in its final game of this weekend's Aztec Invitational held at Aztec Aquaplex. SDSU split four games in the two-day event.
Freshman Caroline Israels scored two goals, while fellow freshman Ioli Benekou and junior Carina Carballo added one goal apiece. Carballo also finished with seven steals, as Benekou and junior Anique Hermann each recorded one assist.
A goal from Israels in the first period put the Aztecs ahead, 1-0, and Benekou tied the score at 2-2 going into halftime with her score late in the second quarter. Israels' second goal of the game cut San Diego State's deficit to one, 4-3, with 5:27 left in the third period, but the Tigers scored the next three goals to push their lead to 7-3 midway through the fourth period.
SDSU returns to action on Saturday, March 22, as it competes in the Chapman Mini Invitational in Orange, Calif., against CSU Eastbay at 10 a.m., before taking on Connecticut College at 2:30 p.m. and Chapman University at 7 p.m.
