SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Spencer Thornton's bases-loaded triple keyed a seven-run fifth inning for San Diego State and it went on to an 11-2 victory over Purdue Saturday evening at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The win extended the Aztecs' current win streak to five games while the Boilermakers suffered their sixth consecutive loss.

SDSU (14-4) took the lead in the contest with two runs in the bottom of the fourth that came on an RBI double by Tyler Adkison and a run-scoring single by Evan Potter.

That advantage was short-lived, however, as Purdue (1-12) came right back with two of its own in the next inning to tie the game. Those runs, only one of which was earned, were charged to Aztec starter Bubba Derby, who would go 6.2 innings allowing the pair of runs on five hits. He tied his career high with eight strikeouts and would be credited with the win to improve to 3-0.

Thornton's triple down the right field line came after SDSU had loaded the bases with no outs. Following that hit, the Aztecs again loaded the bases and scored their next two runs when Adkison was hit by pitch and Greg Allen walked. A sacrifice fly by Tim Zier provided the sixth score of the inning s before France capped it off with an RBI single.

San Diego State's final two runs came in the bottom of the sixth when Brad Haynal sent a pitch over the left field wall scoring Andrew Brown, who had walked) ahead of him to make it 11-2. The home was Haynal's second of the season and the third of his three hits on the night. Thornton also ended up with three hits and both he and Haynal crossed the plate twice.

SDSU and Purdue will meet for game three of their four-game series on Sunday (Mar. 16) with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m.
