SAN DIEGO - San Diego State football head coach Rocky Long has announced a pair of coaching staff changes, which became effective on March 1. Kevin McGarry has been named director of player personnel, while Zach Arnett has been named an assistant coach.
McGarry has spent three seasons as a full-time member of Coach Long's staff, working with the linebackers in 2011 before spending the past two years as the special teams coach. In 2009-10, he served as an assistant to the Aztec coaches. Prior to coming to The Mesa, McGarry spent 26 years as a football coach at the University of San Diego, including eight seasons as the Toreros' head coach (1996-03), where he was named the Pioneer League Coach of the Year in 2002.
Arnett has been on Coach Long's staff for the past three years as a graduate assistant with the linebackers and defense. Arnett, who will continue coaching the linebackers, was a standout linebacker for Coach Long at New Mexico from 2005-08, where he was a first-team Academic All-American as a senior. A four-time academic all-conference honoree and scholar-athlete, Arnett garnered all-MW honorable mention accolades in 2008 after recording 92 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss, an a then MW record-tying six forced fumbles.
Two other office changes have been announced as well. Meridith Bartman has been named an assistant for operations/assistant to head coach, while Emily Daniels is the assistant for recruiting.
