HOUSTON - San Diego State's Chelsea Kruthers broke the school record in the mile to lead the track and field team on the final day of the Howie Ryan Invitational & Multi's Saturday in Houston.

Kruthers finished the eight-lap race in 5 minutes, 1 second (5:01.00) to finish eighth out of 42 entrants. Kruthers' time broke the previous record of 5:04.40, set by Lisa Crampton in 2006. Yesterday, Kruthers ran the 800-meter leg of the distance medley relay team which set a school record in 12:05.71.

Rachel Roesgen, who ran the mile leg in the DMR last night, came in 14th in the mile today in 5:08.10, which is the third-fastest time in Aztecs' history. Dynasty Gammage, who ran the 1,200 leg of the DMR last night, was 20th in 5:20.83. Adidas' Charlene Lipsy won the mile in 4:47.44.

A day after winning the weight throw, Jasmine Burrell finished second in the shot put with a heave of 51 feet, 7 ¼ inches (15.73m). Teammate Nicole Oudenaarden, who finished second in the pentathlon yesterday, came in sixth in the shot put at 44-01.25 (13.44m).

Kristen Brown followed her runner-up finish in the pole vault on Friday with a third-place showing today in the 60 hurdles in 8.46 after running 8.61 (fifth place) in the semifinals earlier in the day.

Maderia Toatley, who ran the 400 leg in the DMR school record last night, came in ninth in the 400 in 58.52 and 10th in the 200 in 25.57.

Meritzer Williams was the other San Diego State athlete to finish in the top 20 of her event, taking 17th in the 60 in 7.64.

The Aztecs are back in action on Feb. 14-15 at the Don Kirby Elite in Albuquerque, N.M.
