LA JOLLA, Calif. - In a meet that came down to the final event, San Diego State captured two of the top three spots in the 400 freestyle relay and edged Mountain West foe Boise State, 155-144, Saturday afternoon at the Canyonview Aquatic Complex on the campus of UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif. The Aztecs made it two dual meet wins on the day as they also defeated Grand Canyon, 235-58, to improve to 7-0 on the season. UC San Diego hosted the meet, but did not score against the Aztecs as the teams had faced off in a dual meet on Dec. 30 at SDSU.

SDSU trailed Boise State, 137-126, after 14 of the meet's 16 events, but rallied to take a two-point lead by capturing the top three spots in the 200 individual medley against the Broncos. Senior Mikaela Macklin won the race in 2:03.56 and was followed by teammate Frida Berggren who clocked a 2:04.90. Natilee Ruiz went 2:08.80 to capture third (fourth overall) vs. BSU allowing the Aztecs to take a slim advantage (142-140) into the final event.

San Diego State then wrapped up the victory over the Broncos as the quartet of Anika Apostalon, Chelsea Bailey, Maddy Dalcamo and Whitney Weisz won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:23.91. That mark enters the SDSU record book as the ninth-fastest time in program history. The foursome of Savannah Miller, Macklin, Ruiz and Berggren added the Aztecs' final points with a third-place finish in the event in 3:28.47.

In addition to picking up wins in both relays and the 200 individual medley, Aztec swimmers also placed first in sixth other events over the course of the meet. Macklin became a double winner on the afternoon as she took first in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:20.01.

Apostalon was a four-time winner as she captured both the 100 backstroke (54.96) and 50 freestyle (23.02) in addition to her efforts in both relay races. She was the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay and ended the day by leading off the winning 400 freestyle relay.

San Diego State's three other individual victories came with Lauran Day winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.94, Dalcamo taking the 100 freestyle in 51.23 and Ruiz winning the 200 backstroke in 2:01.02.

Up next for the Aztecs is a triple dual home meet with Colorado State, North Texas and Tulane scheduled for the Aztec Aquaplex on Friday, Jan. 10, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
