JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The San Diego State Lacrosse team put up a valiant effort in its season opener on Saturday, but ultimately lost on the road to Jacksonville, 15-5. The Aztecs (0-1) stayed within reach of the Dolphins for most of the game until Jacksonville (2-2) finished the game on a 7-0 in the second half to pull away late, and cruise to its second win of the season.

SDSU was in position to begin the season with a road victory when sophomore Bailey Ewing's goal off an assist from sophomore Michaela Jarvis pulled the Aztecs within, 8-5, with 22:19 remaining. However, Kelsey Wiglesworth's goal less than a minute later pushed Jacksonville's lead back up to four, and SDSU was unable to score the rest of the game.

Ewing finished with three goals and an assist for the Aztecs, while sophomore Grace Korandovich and junior Isabelle Pickett added one goal apiece. Senior goalkeeper Sammy Slattery recorded nine saves.

The Aztecs trailed, 6-3, at halftime, as Korandovich, Pickett and Ewing each scored in the first half. Korandovich recorded SDSU's first goal of the season to cut Jacksonville's lead to 2-1, and Pickett's score off Ewing's assist made it 3-2 with 22:46 remaining in the first half. Ewing's goal with 5:12 left before intermission cut Jacksonville's advantage to 5-3.

SDSU returns to action on its Florida road trip on Sunday morning against Stetson, beginning at 11 a.m. ET.
