COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - Playing its second nationally ranked team of the season, the San Diego State women's basketball team suffered a 72-35 defeat at the hands of No, 23/20 Texas A&M on Tuesday at Reed Arena.
The Aztecs were unable to overcome a slow start and slipped to 1-5 on the year, while the Aggies snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 5-2 overall.
Ahjalee Harvey led SDSU with seven points and came up with a career-high five steals on the evening.
Karla Gilbert played well against the Aztecs, scoring 16 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Courtney Williams added 10 points and 12 boards for Texas A&M (5-2), while Courtney Walker and Chelsea Jennings chipped in with 10 apiece. Gilbert was 6 of 7 from the field and had eight offensive rebounds.
The Aggies ran out to a 17-3 lead at 9:46 of the first half and held SDSU to just 14 points overall in the first, en route to a 17-point halftime lead. Texas A&M was able to put up 41 points after intermission.
Texas A&M limited San Diego St. to 23.2 percent shooting overall, while knocking down 41.9 percent themselves.
