SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team continues its homestand on Thursday, Dec. 19, when it squares off against Miami University (Ohio) at Viejas Arena. Game time is slated for 6 p.m. PT, and a live video stream via the Mountain West Network will be available at www.goaztecs.com.
Thursday's clash represents the inaugural meeting between the Aztecs and RedHawks, with the Scarlet and Black facing an opponent from the Mid-American Conference for just the eighth time in program history.
SDSU is coming off a narrow 56-55 loss to UCLA on Sunday, marking the fourth time this season that the Aztecs have been defeated by four points or less.
Against the Bruins, senior Danesha Long (long Beach, Calif.) tied her career-high with 13 points, including a personal-best three 3-pointers, while fellow classmate Cierra Warren (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) contributed 12 points of her own to go with a season-high eight rebounds.
Warren has connected on 61.5 percent of her field-goal attempts (40-65), which tops the Mountain West and ranks 15th in the nation entering the week. The SDSU center is averaging a team-best 15.2 points per game and has broken the 20-point barrier on three occasions.
As a team, the Aztecs lead the MW with a 44.7 field-goal percentage, which ranked 43rd in the country heading into this week.
San Diego State is 4-3 all-time against Mid-American Conference schools. The Aztecs last played a MAC team in 2007, downing Western Michigan by a 77-72 count in consolation game of the San Diego Surf `N Slam.In addition, Thursday's tilt will mark just the fourth time in program history that the Aztecs have faced a Division I opponent from the state of Ohio. SDSU dropped a home-and-away series with Toledo in 1997 and 1998, before defeating Dayton, 74-62, at the USC Women of Troy Invitational in December 2010.
