SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State athletic department has teamed up with the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl to donate tickets to Boise-area military and youth groups for its game against Buffalo on Dec. 21 in Boise, Idaho.
The Aztecs and the Bowl have partnered with VetTix, a veteran tickets foundation, Gowen Field and the YMCA of Boise as recipients of the tickets.
Tickets for the game remain available and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets through San Diego State as it will benefit Aztec athletics. Tickets can be purchased at GoAztecs.com (https://oss.ticketmaster.com/html/pack_home.htmI?l=EN&team=sdsu), over the phone by calling (619) 283-7378, or by visiting the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium's Window E between 9 a.m. PT and 5 p.m. PT.
"We are excited to work with the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl to ensure that our servicemen and women, their families, as well as area youth, will have an opportunity to enjoy college football this postseason," San Diego State athletic director Jim Sterk said. "We are committed to the military and work closely with military groups in San Diego throughout the year. It is great to partner with the Bowl game to further that relationship and work with Boise area members of the military. We look forward to providing them and their families with an entertaining day.
"Providing area youth with exposure to the college experience is important to all of us at San Diego State University. Enhancing their knowledge of college and collegiate athletics is a great way to introduce them to existing educational opportunities. We look forward to seeing Boise area youth at the game on Dec. 21st."
Tickets, which are $50, are still available for purchase, as well as for donation to recipients of VetTix, Gowen Field and the YMCA of Boise or sponsorship of a band/spirit squad member and underserved youths.
"We appreciate our fans that will be joining us in Boise for the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl as well as those who have supported our program by purchasing tickets for Boise area military families and youth to see the bowl game in person," Sterk added. "For those Aztec fans that will not be able to attend the game in person, you can still help the athletic department and give deserving individuals an opportunity to see the game by donating your purchased ticket. In addition to allowing military and youth an opportunity to see San Diego State football, a purchased ticket also helps the athletic department secure future bowl games and neutral site basketball events.
"We are grateful for the tremendous support Aztec fans have shown during this holiday season."
San Diego State will be playing in a school-record fourth straight bowl game after only appearing in consecutive bowl games once (1966 and 1967) before. The four straight bowl games equals the total number of bowl appearances the Aztecs had in the 41 previous seasons, spanning from 1969 through 2009.
SDSU finished the regular season with a 7-5 record, including a 6-2 mark in Mountain West play. San Diego State ended up placing second in the West Division of the Mountain West and third overall (the Aztecs and Boise State each finished 6-2, but SDSU beat the Broncos, 34-31).
The Bulls, meanwhile, come into the game with a 8-4 overall record after going 6-2 in the MAC to finish second in the East Division behind conference champion Bowling Green.
