SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The San Diego State women's cross country team closed out its 2013 campaign on Friday at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Sacramento, Calif. All five Aztec runners showed marked improvement over their previous 6,000-meter times from the Mountain West Championship held on Nov. 1.

SDSU was paced by Chelsea Kruthers for the fifth straight outing by completing the race at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex with a time of 21 minutes, 39 seconds to finish in the 119th spot out of 225 runners. With her performance, the Aztec sophomore shaved 2:11 off her result from the conference meet two weeks ago.

Fellow classmate Rachel Roesgen was the next SDSU runner to come down the chute after posting a time of 22:05 to wind up in the 155th position, while junior Dynasty Gammage (169th - 22:18), freshman Elaine Ribeiro (182nd - 22:29) and junior Katy Smith (203rd - 22:54) rounded out the Aztec contingent.

As a team, SDSU placed 30th out of 32 squads with 810 points, topping UC Irvine (891 pts) and UNLV (940 pts). With four competitors finishing in the top 12, Arizona (84 pts) bested Stanford (94 pts) to capture the team title, while fellow Pac-12 member Oregon (120 pts) finished a distant third.

Mountain West champion Emma Bates of Boise State captured the individual crown with a time of 19:11, edging Arizona State's Shelby Houlihan (19:14) by three seconds, followed closely by Aisling Cuffe of Stanford (19:15), who took third.
