SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State got payback for a four-set loss in Las Vegas earlier in the season as it needed just three sets to defeat UNLV (25-18, 29-17, 25-21) Monday evening on Aztec Court in Peterson Gym. With the victory the Aztecs improved to 13-12 overall on the year and 8-7 in the Mountain West.

Senior outside hitter Raegan Shelton led all players with 16 kills and also contributed three blocks and a pair of digs. Fellow Aztec Michelle Waber added 12 kills of her own while Chaiymin Steel finished with nine plus three blocks and two digs.

Setter Johnna Fouch recorded her 10th double-double of the season as she registered 28 assists and 15 digs. Fellow Aztec setter Chloe Mathis had 14 assists and seven digs while libero Christie Ring notched 13 digs along with a career-high six assists and a service ace.

SDSU's offense was the dominant force in the match as the Aztecs finished with 52 kills and a .242 hitting percentage compared to 35 kills and a .120 attack mark for the visitors.

In the first set, San Diego State grabbed the early lead by scoring six of the opening seven points only to see UNLV (14-11, 9-6 MW) tie the game at 14-14. From there the Aztecs tallied the next four points as they led the remainder of the contest. Shelton led all players with six kills while Steel added four. The Rebels had only seven total kills in the set as they were held to a -.031 hitting percentage.

The second set was a closer affair with neither team able to take more than a two-point lead until SDSU went up 20-17. The Aztecs held onto that advantage and had three chances to win the set after taking a 24-21 lead. But the Rebels won three straight points on a pair of kills and an SDSU attack error to knot the score at 24-all. The teams then alternated winning the next six points to make it 27-27 before back-to-back kills by Shelton secured the win for the home side. Waber led SDSU with eight kills in the set.

Set number three saw the Rebels with the early lead up until 10-10 before the Aztecs went ahead for good with six consecutive points. Shelton sparked that run with four kills which along with a Mathis service ace and a UNLV attack error make it 16-10 in favor of SDSU. The Rebels closed to within two at 18-16, but that's as close as they would get as SDSU rebuilt its led to 22-16, eventually finishing off the match on a kill by Shelton, who had seven in the set.

San Diego State will be on the road later this week as it travels to Reno for a match against Mountain West foe Nevada on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:00 p.m. in the Wolf Pack's Virginia Street Gym.
