SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's tennis' senior Juan Florez (Bogota, Columbia) defeated Grand Canyon's Adrian Legaretta, 3-6, 6-0 (6), in the Aztec Invitational Flight three semifinals on Saturday at Aztec Tennis Center. With the victory, Florez advances to the Flight three singles championship match on Sunday.
Florez defeated Grand Canyon's Adrian Legaretta, 3-6, 6-0 (6), in the semifinals to move on to the championship round. He'll take on Loyola Marymount's Daniel Simko in the finals on Sunday.
In doubles action, SDSU's duo of Florez and freshman Jonas Meinzer (Buggingen, Germany) topped Grand Canyon's team of Ahmad Saleem and Legarreta, 8-2, in the second round. However, Florez and Meinzer fell to USC's unit of Robbie Bellamy and Nick Crystal, 8-5, in the quarterfinals.
Semifinals play of the doubles bracket begins on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. PT, while he championship match for all three singles brackets will start immediately after.
