SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Chelsea Kruthers finished in 42nd-place at the NCAA Inter-Regional Jamboree to pace the San Diego State cross country team Friday on the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento, Calif. Kruthers was one of seven Aztecs who ran a collegiate-best cross country 5K on the day.
SDSU came in 14th out of 19 teams with 339 points, ahead of No. 24 San Francisco (432), UC Irvine (474), USC (475), Pacific (549) and Cal State Northridge (586). UCLA won the meet with 77 points, followed by Cal Poly (78), UC Davis (88), Sacramento State (102), California (145) and Oregon State (145).
Kruthers blazed through the flat 5,000-meter course in a personal-best time of 17 minutes, 44 seconds to take 42nd out of 156 runners.
Rachel Roesgen also broke 18:00 for the first time of her collegiate career to finish 65th in 17:59, followed by Laura Vazquez in 69th with a PR time of 18:06.
Dynasty Gammage was the next San Diego State runner to cross the finish line, coming in 90th in a PR of 18:25, while Katy Smith (101st, 18:39 PR) also scored for the Aztecs.
Elaine Ribeiro (104th, 18:47 PR), Jessica Cygan (106th, 18:50) and Melissa Wendorf (139th, 19:33) also competed for SDSU.
The meet served as both a preview meet for the NCAA West Regional Championships on Nov. 15 and an inter-regional "points accumulator" featuring a competitive inter-regional field of teams looking to earn their way to the national meet in November.
San Diego State is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Highlander Invitational in Riverside, Calif.
