Aztec Story Lines
- The San Diego State men's soccer team travels to Northern California this weekend, as the Aztecs take on No. 1 California on Friday afternoon, before facing Stanford on Sunday, Nov. 3. Live stats for each match will be available at GoAztecs.com.
- SDSU earned a split in two home matches last weekend, defeating Oregon State, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon and dropping its match to No. 3 Washington, 2-0, on Friday night. With Sunday's victory, the Aztecs swept the season series against Oregon State, and won for the second time in their last three matches overall.
- Last Friday's match was San Diego State's sixth against a ranked opponent this season, and fifth against a top-10-ranked opponent. The Pac-12 Conference has three teams ranked in the top four of the NSCAA rankings and RPI, and is the only conference in the country with three teams in the top-10 of both categories.
- The Aztecs are 2-2-1 in their last five contests, 4-3-1 with two straight victories following a loss, 5-3 when scoring first, 5-2-1 when scoring last, 3-1 when leading at halftime, 5-2-1 when they out-shoot opponents, 4-3 when they have the edge in corner kicks, 4-3 when leading in a match and have won three-straight matches when scoring two goals.
- Senior forward Jordan Ongaro (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) scored his sixth goal in seven conference matches this season in the Aztecs' 2-0 victory over Oregon State on Oct. 27. Ongaro's goal off an assist from senior Morgan Sacco (Greeley, Colo.) in the 56th minute extended SDSU's advantage to 2-0. Sacco put San Diego State ahead for good in the fourth minute, as his shot from 15 yards out off a pass from freshman Casey Macias (Chicago, Ill.) went through the left side of the net for his second goal of the season.
- Sophomore goalkeeper John Marcuzzo (Oakland, Calif.) made his first-career start on Sunday, and earned his first career shutout after tallying one save in 90 minutes against the Beavers. Macias also made his first -career start on Sunday against OSU, recording the first point and assist of his career.
- In conference play, Ongaro leads the Pac-12 in goals (6), goals per match (0.86), points (12) and points per match, while senior midfielder Abraham Villon (Garden Grove, Calif.) leads in assists (5) and assists per match (0.83) in conference play.
- Overall this season, Villon is tied for first in the Pac-12 in points per match (1.31), second in points (17) and fifth in both assists (5) and assists per match (0.38). Meanwhile, Ongaro is tied for first in goals (8), second in goals per match (0.57), fourth in points (16) and fifth in points per match (0.57). Ongaro's eight goals is are also tied for 27th in the nation.
- Senior Kevin Bick (Louisville, Ky.) is sixth in the conference in shots per match with 2.08 per contest, while senior goalkeeper Blake Hylen (San Diego, Calif.) is second in the Pac-12 in saves (49) and saves per match (3.77) with three shutouts to his credit.
- Through seven Pac-12 contests this season, San Diego State is third in shots (83), third in points (30), second in goals (11), third in goals per match (1.57), third in assists (8), third in saves (24) and tied for first in the conference with two shutouts. Through 14 games overall this season, the Aztecs are even with opponents in goals scored, 24-24, with an 80-68 advantage in corner kicks.

California
The Golden Bears are coming off their first loss of the season, falling to San Diego, 1-0, on Oct. 25, but still enter Friday's match ranked No. 1 in the NSCAA Coaches Poll. California has a with a 10-1-2 overall record and in second place in the Pac-12 at 4-0-1. The Golden Bears boast one of the stingiest defenses in the nation, as they lead the Pac-12 in goals allowed (10) and in goals against average (0.73). Senior Steve Birnbaum is tied with Ongaro for the conference lead in goals (8), is the only Pac-12 player ahead of Ongaro in goals per match (0.62) and is tied with Villon for most points per match (1.31).
Stanford
The Cardinal enters Friday's home match against UCLA with a 7-4-2 overall record and in fifth place in the Pac-12 at 1-3-1. Stanford is coming off a overtime victory at home over San Francisco, 2-1, on Oct. 25, and its previous match with San Diego State ended in a tie, 3-3, at SDSU Sports Deck on Oct. 13. Zach Batteer leads the Cardinal with 16 points on seven goals and two assists, while Jordan Morris is second on the team with 14 points on four goals and a team-high six assists.
