SAN DIEGO - San Diego State goalkeeper Melanie Vaughn has been named the College Sports Madness Mountain West Player of the Week. This the first career award for the redshirt sophomore from Harbor City, Calif.

Vaughn led SDSU to a perfect 2-0 record last week to help secure the Aztecs' second straight MW regular-season championship. The 5-7 goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes in San Diego State's 1-0 victory at Boise State and another 90 in a 2-0 triumph at Utah State.

Against the Broncos, Vaughn was stellar in net, making three saves and keeping the home team off the scoreboard en route to her seventh shutout. Two days later vs. the Aggies, Vaughn was hardly tested, making one save and posting her eighth blanking of the year.

For the season, Vaughn has a goals-against average of 1.00 and 59 saves. Against Mountain West foes, however, the redshirt sophomore has been even better with a GAA of 0.47 and 19 stops.

Vaughn and the MW champions will close the regular season at New Mexico on Friday at 5 p.m. MT. The game will stream live on the Mountain West Network.
