SAN DIEGO -
Despite being knocked out of official play at the ITA West Regional, the San Diego State women's tennis team saw action in a few lucky loser matches on Sunday. The Aztecs saw their final standing singles players and one doubles team fall in play on Saturday.
In the lucky loser draw, SDSU picked up five wins in the bracket, all over Hawai'i. Kristin Buth took down her Rainbow Wahine opponent, Xenia Suworowa, 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Kennedy Davis also came out victorious over Martina Kostalova, 6-4, 7-5. First-year Aztec Olivia Larsson snuck past Rebecca Faltusz after taking their match to three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5. Sophomore Tami Nguyen took her decision over Sarah Gealer in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Hailey Johnson was also able to notch a win for San Diego State as she downed Paulina Petriskova, 6-4, 6-2. Dora Somoracz would not be as fortunate as her fellow Aztecs as she fell to Kelsey Daguio, 7-6, 6-2.
The regional will resume play tomorrow at Aztec Tennis Center. Complete results from day three will be posted on GoAztecs.com.
