RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Chelsea Kruthers took ninth out of 91 finishers to lead the San Diego State cross country team to a fourth-place showing Saturday morning on the campus of UC Riverside in Riverside, Calif.
The Aztecs totaled 92 points to come in fourth out of nine teams, three points ahead of fifth-place USC (95). Wyoming won the meet with 54 points, followed closely by the host Highlanders (64) and Cal State Fullerton (65).
Kruthers led SDSU for the second straight week, completing the 5K course in 17 minutes, 55.8 seconds. It was her second top-five finish of the season and third time in the top 16. UCR's Raquel Hefflin won the meet in 17:09.5.
Rachel Roesgen was the next San Diego State finisher in 14th in 18:05.3, while Jessica Cygan (18:20.8), Dynasty Gammage (18:25.5) and Katy Smith (18:27.3) were 22nd, 24th and 26th, respectively. Smith's 18:27.3 was a collegiate best.
Elaine Ribeiro (31st, 18:34.7) and Cali King (79th, 20:33.2) also ran PR's for the Aztecs.
SDSU returns to action Friday (Oct. 25) at the Titan Invitational in Fullerton, Calif.
