The San Diego State cross country team returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 19) when it travels to Riverside, Calif., for the Highlander Invitational on the campus of UC Riverside. The women's 5K race will take place at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course at 8:30 a.m. PT.

Scheduled to compete with the Aztecs and the host Highlanders at Saturday's meet include Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, USC and Wyoming.

The UC Riverside course is 85 percent flat with a few rolling hills and hard-packed dirt with pre-competition watering to reduce dust. The course also goes through 100-year-old orange groves and eucalyptus trees. To reach the Ag/Ops Course from the 215/60 freeway, exit Martin Luther King Blvd. and go west before turning left at the Canyon Crest traffic light and travel approximately 300 meters to the course entrance.

SDSU is coming off a 14th-place showing at the loaded NCAA Inter-Regional Jamboree in Sacramento, Calif., on Oct. 4. In that race, Chelsea Kruthers was the team's top finisher in 42nd with a 5K time of 17:44. She was one of seven San Diego State runners who ran collegiate-best times.

Rachel Roesgen (65th, 17:59), Laura Vazquez (69th, 18:06), Dynasty Gammage (90th, 18:25), Katy Smith (101st, 18:39), Elaine Ribeiro (104th, 18:47) and Melissa Wendorf (139th, 19:33) joined Kruthers with PR's on the day, while Jessica Cygan was 106th in 18:50.

Scheduled to run for San Diego State tomorrow are Cygan, Gammage, Cali King, Kruthers, Ribeiro, Roesgen, Smith and Wendorf.

Results will first be posted on FlashWest.com and later on GoAztecs.com.

Following the Highlander Invitational, the Aztecs will head to Fullerton, Calif., for the Titan Invitational on Oct. 25.
