SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team played Houston to a tie, 0-0, on Sunday afternoon at SDSU Sports Deck. The tie marked SDSU's second draw in its last three games, and was the first time the Aztecs didn't earn a victory in a regular season home game since October of 2011.

The Aztecs (1-2-2, 0-0 MW) had a 36-6 advantage in shots, with a 17-2 edge in shots on goal. However, San Diego State finished the game with 10 offsides penalties, which thwarted several other scoring opportunities.

Senior Haley Palmer led SDSU with five shots on goal, while junior forwards Haley Locker and Hannah Keane finished with three apiece. Sophomore Melanie Vaughn played all 110 minutes in goal, recording two saves.

San Diego State came out sharp offensively to begin the game, but weren't able to take advantage of their opportunities. Palmer got one of the Aztecs' best scoring chances of the game in the 38th minute, but Houston goalkeeper Cami Koski's diving save kept the game scoreless. Koski finished the game with 17 saves.

In the second half, Koski made another good save on a shot from Keane in the in the 70th minute, and Kelsey Booth's shot on a free kick early in the first overtime period hit the crossbar and bounced back harmlessly into the field of play. SDSU out-shot Houston 7-0 in the two overtime periods.

The Aztecs return to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 13, on the road against UCLA, in a rematch of last season's Third Round NCAA Tournament game. The match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. PT, and can be seen live on Pac-12 Network.
