The San Diego State cross country team is back in action on Saturday at the adidas/UCI Invitational in Irvine, Calif. The women's 5,000-meter race is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. PT.
The Aztecs will be joined by host UC Irvine and 11 other schools, including Cal Lutheran, Central Arizona, Chapman, Cal State San Bernardino, El Camino College, Hope International, Occidental, Pomona-Pitzer, Soka University, The Master's and Vanguard. There will be 169 competitors in all running in the women's race.
Entered for SDSU on Saturday are Jessica Cygan, Dynasty Gammage, Cali King, Chelsea Kruthers, Jessica McCall, Elaine Ribeiro, Rachel Roesgen, Katy Smith, Laura Vazquez and Melissa Wendorf.
San Diego State is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Mark Covert Classic in Brea, Calif., last Saturday. Vazquez led the Aztecs with a 20th-place showing in 19 minutes, 11.4 seconds over the 5K course. Cygan (29th, 19:24.3), McCall (33rd, 19:31.6), Kruthers (34th, 19:31.9) and Roesgen (35th, 19:32.9) rounded out the top five for SDSU, while Ribeiro (52nd, 20:04.1) and Smith (68th, 20:19.5) were San Diego State's No. 6 and No. 7 runners.
The adidas/UCI Invitational will take place at the UC Irvine Anteater Recreation Center Fields (ARC). The address is Anteater Recreation Center, 680 California Ave., Irvine, CA 92697-4515.
Following a week off from competition, SDSU will host the 69th annual Aztec Invitational on Sept. 21 at Balboa Park. The day gets underway at 7:30 a.m. PT with the Dirt Dog Community 5K race.
