SDSU Fall Classic I Day Two Results
The San Diego State women's tennis finished the second day of the SDSU Fall Classic I on Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs saw one doubles team and one singles player advance to the championship match in their respective draws.
Doubles play kicked off action at the Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday. In the red doubles draw, Laura Antonana subbed in for Hailey Johnson. Antonana and Kristin Buth were the only SDSU duo to post a win in doubles play as they defeated Anna Depenau Janine Koleta, 8-3. The San Diego State pair will face Smith/Jodoin of Duke tomorrow in the championship match.
In the black doubles draw, Hailey Johnson and Tami Nguyen replaced Kennedy Davis and Antonana Iriarte. Johnson and Nguyen came up short to Janaki Gunuganti and Frederique Van de Velde, 8-6. The Aztecs will take on Morkel-Brink/Stojanovic of San Diego tomorrow.
The white doubles bracket saw Dora Somoracz sub in for Tami Nguyen. Somoracz and Olivia Larsson notched a win over Logan Finnell and Anastasia Koveshnikova of Loyola Marymount in the consolation draw, 8-3. Larsson and Somoracz will conclude their play in the tournament by taking on Brandt/Jolliff of New Mexico State.
Singles play got underway with Antonana Iriarte defeating Susana Alcaraz in the red draw, 6-4, 6-1. Antonana will face Chiange of Pepperdine on Sunday. In the black bracket, Tami Nguyen battled Anna Depenau and took the match to three sets. Nguyen could not hang out, ultimately falling, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4. The SDSU sophomore will take on Capannolo of Pepperdine tomorrow.
In the white draw, Kennedy Davis withdrew from her match against Priscilla Annoual of Grand Canyon. Hailey Johnson could not keep up her winning ways from Friday, dropping the decision to Silvia Tumova of Grand Canyon, 6-1, 6-3. Johnson will see Raquel Gonzalez, also of Grand Canyon, on Sunday.
Dora Somoracz came up short to Julia Norlin of Loyola Marymount in the gold bracket. Sunday the Aztec will see Janine Koleta of San Diego.
The silver draw saw the most success for SDSU as Olivia Larsson advanced to the championship match. Larsson took down Chloe Jolliff of New Mexico State, 6-2, 6-4. The title match will come down to Larsson and Mia Brandt, also of New Mexico State.
The final day of the tournament will begin tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., once again beginning with doubles play.
