ALBBUQUERQUE, N.M. - San Diego State's Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) finds herself in a tie for third place after firing a collective 3-under par 143 on Friday during the first two rounds of the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico Championship Course. As a team, the Aztecs currently occupy the seventh position out of 16 schools with a 36-hole total of 17-over 601, following rounds of 303 and 298 on the par-73, 6,192-yard layout.

Despite making bogey on her final hole of the first round, Blair had her putter working for most of the morning session, offsetting two double-bogeys with six birdies to finish at 2-under 71. The SDSU freshman then continued her solid play in the afternoon, posting just one blemish on her scorecard, a bogey on the par-4 No. 12, while recording 14 pars and three birdies en route to a second-round 72.

With her effort, Blair ended the day tied for third with Betty Chen of UC Davis (-3), trailing front-runner Cassy Isagawa of Oregon, who tied a 36-hole tournament record with an 8-under 138, and Pepperdine's Somin Lee of Pepperdine (-4), who owns the No. 2 spot on the individual leaderboard heading into Saturday's final round.

The Aztecs' Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden) also turned in a pair of steady performances Friday, carding rounds of 73 and 74 on the strength of 27 pars overall. The SDSU sophomore had four birdies tempered somewhat by five bogeys, but still remains in a tie for 11th at 1-over 147.

Meanwhile, Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.) sits seven strokes in back of Henrikson in a tie for 47th at 8-over 154. The Aztec junior was plagued by a pair of double-bogeys in the opening round and experienced the sting of five bogeys in the afternoon, settling for back-to-back 77s.

Elsewhere, senior Maureen Dunnagan (Lexington, S.C.) registered scores of 80 and 79 to tie for the 62 position at 13-over 159, while sophomore Shannon Lubar (Littleton, Colo.) climbed 13 places after shaving seven strokes off her first-round total, finishing the day in a tie for 73rd at 15-over 161 on rounds of 84-77.

SDSU was also represented by junior Kristina Lynn (Carlsbad, Calif.), an individual competitor who finds herself in a tie for 69th after shooting a combined 14-over 160 (81-79).

Pepperdine (-3), which earned a No. 15 ranking in Golfweek's preseason poll, maintains the top spot in the team standings with a four-shot advantage over Oregon (+1), followed by UC Davis (+4), Northwestern (+5) and Iowa State (+5).

San Diego State wraps up competition at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Saturday when it tees off with Oregon State and host New Mexico in a shotgun start, beginning at 8 a.m. MT. A link to Golfstat's live scoring will be available on www.goaztecs.com.
