2013 AZTEC CROSS COUNTRY SCHEDULE
The 69th annual Aztec Invitational on Sept. 21 highlights the 2013 San Diego State cross country schedule, which was announced today by head coach Shelia Burrell. The Aztecs are slated to compete in six regular season meets before the Mountain West Championships on Nov. 1.
The 69th annual Aztec Invitational will consist of five races at San Diego's Balboa Park on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Dirt Dog Community Race, a 5K USATF sanctioned event, kicks things off at 7:30 a.m. PT. The Women's Open 5K is slated for 9 a.m. PT, followed by the Women's Invitational 5K at 9:30 a.m. PT, which will feature SDSU. The Men's Invitational, which is an 8K, gets underway at 10 a.m. PT with the Men's Open 8K closing the day's festivities at 10:30 a.m. PT.
San Diego State kicks off the 2013 campaign at the Mark Covert Classic on Saturday, Aug. 31. The meet, which is hosted by Cal State Fullerton, will take place at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea, Calif.
Next up on the 2013 slate is the adidas/UCI Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7. The invite is hosted by UC Irvine and will be on the Anteater campus.
Following the Aztec Invitational, the Aztecs head to Sacramento to compete in the NCAA Preview on Friday, Oct. 4. The race, which will take place at Haggin Oaks Golf Club and is hosted by Sacramento State, will give SDSU a chance to look at the course that will also play host to the NCAA West Regional Championships on Nov. 15.
San Diego State next competes at the Highlander Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Riverside, Calif. UC Riverside is the host of the Highlander Invite.
The Aztecs wrap up their regular season on Friday, Oct. 25 at the Titan Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. Like the season-opening Mark Covert Classic, Cal State Fullerton is the meet's host.
SDSU begins its postseason on Friday, Nov. 1 with the Mountain West Championships. This year's championship meet is hosted by Air Force in USAF Academy, Colo.
The final meet on the schedule for San Diego State is the NCAA West Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 15 in Sacramento. Depending on how the Aztecs do at the regional meet, they could have a chance to move onto the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Nov. 23.
