CHICAGO - Former San Diego State men's soccer player Joe Corona helped lift USA to the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup title on Sunday in Chicago. The U.S. defeated Panama, 1-0, for its fifth Gold Cup title.
Corona started in Sunday's Gold Cup title match and played 68 minutes before being replaced by Brek Shea, who scored the eventual game-winning goal just 42 seconds later.
The San Diego, Calif. native appeared in five games with four starts, recording two goals. He scored his first national team goal in the 57th minute of a victory over Cuba, 4-1, on July 13, and added another score in a 5-1 win against El Salvador on July 21.
Corona played one season at SDSU in 2008 before joining Club Tijuana. He played in 15 matches with three starts for the Aztecs, recording three goals and one assist.
