SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State third baseman Ty France has been named to the 2013 Baseball America Freshman All-America team. A second-team honoree, he was the lone player from the Mountain West Conference on the squad.

France, who started every game during his first season as an Aztec, batted .317 with 14 doubles, five home runs, 36 RBI and 28 runs scored. His home run total led the team as did his .417 on-base percentage.

During SDSU's six games at the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Fresno, Calif. (May 22-26), he hit .726 with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBI as he helped lead the Aztecs to the tourney title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament. His 16 hits over the six games were a tournament record and he was named the tourney MVP.

France batted .345 in conference contests with a .446 on-base percentage. He also drove in 16 runs over those 30 contests and compiled a .973 fielding percentage.

France was also named a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month for May. During that month he hit .508 over 17 games.

San Diego State finished the season with a final record of 31-31, its best in the past four seasons. Season highlights included winning the conference tournament for the first time since 2000, making an appearance at the NCAA Regionals for the first time in four years, placing six players on the all-tourney team and having six athletes earn all-Mountain West honors.
