EUGENE, Ore. - The San Diego State track and field team finished in a tie for 23rd-place at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The Aztecs, who did not have any competitors Saturday in the final day of the four-day event, totaled 11 points to tie Auburn in 23rd-place. It was SDSU's second consecutive top-25 team finish. Kansas won the team title with 60 points, while Texas A&M (44), Oregon (43), LSU (40) and UCF (35) rounded out the top five.
San Diego State was led by junior Shanieka Thomas, who won the triple jump on Friday with a leap of 46 feet, 4 ¾ inches (14.14 meters). She became the fifth individual national champion in program history and second straight, joining Whitney Ashley, who won the discus throw at the 2012 championship meet.
Junior Allison Reaser also scored for the Aztecs, taking eighth in the heptathlon with a school and Mountain West record 5,813 points. The heptathlon took place on Thursday and Friday.
Freshman Nicole Oudenaarden (heptathlon) and senior Alex Evans (triple jump) also competed in the NCAA Championships, taking 23rd and 24th, in their respective event.
