FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The San Diego State softball team had five homers in the opener and tossed a shutout in the nightcap in a doubleheader sweep over Colorado State Sunday in Fort Collins, Colo. The Aztecs (32-18) are back in sole possession of first place in the Mountain West at 10-5 after winning, 12-4, in six innings and 4-0.

In the opener, SDSU tied a school record with five home runs en route to the 12-4, six-inning victory.

Senior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) led the way for San Diego State with two homers and five RBIs. Sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS), meanwhile, was 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, two runs and her Aztec single-season record sixth triple of the year.

Junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) had her league-leading 16th homer, three RBIs, two runs and a walk and junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) recorded her first career home run, drew a walk and scored a pair of runs.

SDSU scored four runs in the top of the first, two in the third, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and finished the run-rule victory with three scores in the sixth.

Freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) picked up the win for San Diego State after allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk over six innings. She struck out six.

In the nightcap, senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout in the Aztecs' 4-0 victory. Arbino (18-12) had a no-hitter through 5 2/3 innings and ended up allowing just four baserunners on two singles, a walk and a hit batter. She had four strikeouts.

SDSU struck first once again in the top of the first when Jackson had a two-out double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Bauer.

In the fifth, Mathis led off with a double and, after a four-pitch walk to Jordan, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.). She then scored on a passed ball, which allowed Jordan to get to third. Jackson followed with a groundout to second base that scored Jordan and put San Diego State up, 3-0.

The Aztecs added another run in the sixth as senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) had a leadoff double and was replaced by junior Stefani Polonia (Pico Rivera, Calif./Towson Univ.). Polonia advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kristin May and scored on a groundout by freshman Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) for the final run of the game.

Bauer had two hits and an RBI, while Jackson had a double, RBI, run and walk. Jordan also reached twice with a single and a walk.

The Rams (22-24, 8-7 MW) won the opening game of the series yesterday by a 3-0 margin.
