FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The San Diego State softball team fell to Colorado State, 3-0, in the series opener Saturday at Ram Field in Fort Collins, Colo. The Aztecs (30-18) and the Rams (22-22) are now tied for first in the Mountain West with an 8-5 league record.

SDSU had plenty of chances to score, loading the bases with two outs in the top of the third inning and getting two runners in scoring position in the fifth, but were unable to get a run across. Altogether, San Diego State left eight runners on base, while finishing 1-for-13 with runners on and 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

CSU got on the scoreboard in the second on Danielle Wikre's two-run home run over the center field fence. Colorado State tacked on a final score in the fifth when Chelsea Biglow's double plated Ashlie Ortega.

Aztec senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over six innings. She struck out two.

Arbino (17-12) ended up stranding seven Rams on the day, including bases loaded with no outs in the sixth. She got out of the jam by getting two fielder's choice groundouts and a popout.

Junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) led the SDSU offense with two hits and a walk. Seniors Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.) and Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) each added singles, while junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) drew two walks.

San Diego State and CSU will play two games on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. MT.
