Aztecs Drop 7-1 Decision at Nevada

RENO, Nev. - Nevada scored single runs in four of the first six innings and held the San Diego State offense in check as it completed a 7-1 victory over the Aztecs Friday night at Peccole Park in Reno. With the loss SDSU saw its record drop to 22-23 overall and 12-10 in the Mountain West as it dropped into a tie for second place with UNLV.

Aztec sophomore left-hander Mike Robards (3-1), making his first weekend start of the season, was touched up for five runs (four earned) on 10 hits over his 6.1 innings of work. He struck out five on the night with no walks, but allowed single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth frames as the Wolf Pack (23-22, 10-12 MW) built a 4-0 lead.

The home side added one more off the Aztec lefty in the seventh along with one each against relievers Tyler Sapp and Justin Hepner to go up 7-0 before Zack Oakley came on to end the Nevada rally. Oakley tossed the final 1.1 innings allowing a hit and a walk while recording three strikeouts.

Wolf Pack starter Bradey Shipley (7-2) scattered eight hits over his 6.2 innings as he shut out the Aztec over the first part of the contest.

San Diego State's lone run in the contest came on Ryan Muno's home run to right center to lead off the top of the eighth off Wolf Pack reliever Adam Whitt.

SDSU finished with game with 10 hits, but was unable to put any runs on the board until Muno's homer. Matt Muñoz led the Aztecs with three hits while Greg Allen and Tim Zier notched two apiece.

San Diego State and Nevada will continue their three-game weekend series on Saturday (May 4) at 1:00 p.m. in Reno.
