SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State freshman third baseman Ty France (West Covina, Calif.; South Hills HS) has been named a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

During last week's Mountain West Tournament in Fresno, Calif., France went 16-for-21 over six games for a .726 batting average. His 16 hits were a conference tournament record.

He finished with four doubles, two home runs, eight RBI and nine runs scored. His slugging percentage for the week was 1.238 and he had a .778 on-base percentage. He was named the tournament MVP.

France's performance helped San Diego State win the conference tournament as it came back through the loser's bracket to defeat No. 13 New Mexico twice to earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.

The Aztecs will open play at the NCAA Regional in Los Angles when they face 10th-ranked UCLA on Friday, May 31, at 6:00 p.m. (PT) at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
