TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) hit a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the San Diego State softball team a 5-2 win over San Jose State Saturday night at the NCAA Tempe Regional in Tempe, Ariz. The Aztecs (36-19) move on to play rv/ No. 21 Georgia (39-20) at 8 p.m. PT in an elimination game, while the Spartans ended their season at 42-17.

SJSU got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning when Markesha Collins hit a two-out home run over the right-center field wall.

SDSU tied it in the bottom of the third as freshman Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) led off with a single and moved to second one out later on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS). Senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.) followed with a single up the middle to score Downey with the tying run.

San Jose State threatened in the fifth after Vanessa House reached on an infield single, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch with just one out. San Diego State senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.), however, got Nicole Schultz to line out to senior first baseman Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) and struck out BranDee Garcia.

San Diego State broke open the game in the fifth as it loaded the bases with consecutive singles by Downey, junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) and Jordan. After a fielder's choice groundout by Corder, Jackson cleared the bases with a grand slam well over the left field wall. It was Jackson's team-leading 17th homer of the year and second grand slam.

Jessica Garcia homered in the seventh to give the Spartans within three at 5-2, but freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.), who relieved Arbino to start the inning, struck out Schultz and BrandDee Garcia to end the game.

Arbino (21-13) picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits and a walk over six innings. She had four strikeouts. O'Toole gave up one run on one hit with two strikeouts.

Downey led the Aztec offense with two hits and a run.
