TEMPE, Ariz. - The San Diego State softball team's 2013 season came to an end in a 3-2 loss to rv/No. 21 Georgia, 3-2, Friday night at the NCAA Tempe Regional in Tempe, Ariz. The Aztecs, who earlier in the night defeated San Jose State, 5-2, finished the year with a 36-20 record and a sixth Mountain West championship, while the Bulldogs (40-20) advanced to the regional final to play No. 4/4 Arizona State at 3 p.m. PT Sunday.

SDSU had the first good scoring chance in the bottom of the first when it loaded the bases with no outs on a single by sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS), a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt by senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.) and a four-pitch walk by junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.). San Diego State, however, got three straight outs with a fielder's choice grounder, a popout and a lineout to end the threat.

UGA got on the scoreboard first in the third when Paige Wilson hit a three-run home run over the right-center field fence.

The Aztecs loaded the bases again in the fourth on a single by senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.), reaching on an error by senior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) and, one batter later, an infield single by freshman Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS). SDSU once again left them stranded after a fielder's choice grounder.

San Diego State didn't waste its chance in the fifth, though. Jordan led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Corder. Jackson then took a 1-2 pitch well over the centerfield fence for her second home run of the day and 18th of the season.

The Aztecs got two on in the sixth and seventh but were unable to get the tying run across.

SDSU finished the game just 2-for-12 (.167) with runners on base, 2-for-10 (.200) with runners in scoring position and 0-for-4 (.000) with the bases loaded, while leaving 10 on base.

Jackson was 2-for-3 with a homer, double, walk and two RBIs. Jordan added two hits, including a double, and scored a run.

Freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) was the tough luck loser, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk over seven innings. She struck out four and finished the year with a 14-7 record.

Earlier in the day, Jackson had a two-out grand slam in the fifth to lift San Diego State past San Jose State, 5-2.
