The San Diego State softball team dropped the opener of the NCAA Tempe Regional to rv/No. 21 Georgia, 9-3, Friday in Tempe, Ariz. The Aztecs (35-19) will now play San Jose State (42-16) at 5:30 p.m. PT Saturday on ESPNU in an elimination game.

Senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.) and sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) each had RBI singles to pace the SDSU offense, while junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) was 1-for-1 with a run and a walk.

Senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) took the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits over two innings. She had one strikeout. Freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) pitched the final four innings and gave up four runs (one earned) on eight hits, while striking out four.

The Bulldogs (39-19) struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. San Diego State's Arbino got the first two UGA batters out, but then surrendered back-to-back singles to Geri Ann Glasco and Tina Iosefa. Following a wild pitch, Kaylee Puailoa homered over the right-center field fence on the 10th pitch of the at-bat.

Georgia added two more runs in the second when Anna Swafford reached via error, which scored Christine Olney with the RBI and Niaja Griffin.

The Aztecs finally got things going in the top of the third. SDSU had five straight singles to start the inning, beginning with freshman Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.), freshman Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) and Mathis. Jordan followed with a single through the right side to score Ruiz for San Diego State's first run of the game. Corder followed with another single through the right side to plate Downey. Junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) reached via fielder's choice to Bulldog second baseman Tess Sito, which allowed Mathis to score the Aztecs' final run of the inning. SDSU left two runners on after ending the inning with a foulout and a fielder's choice groundout.

Anna Swafford got UGA another run when she led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run.

Georgia ended its scoring with three runs in the fifth, all which were unearned off O'Toole. Swafford had a sacrifice fly and Glasco added a two-run single.

Glasco was 4-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Georgia. Morgan Montemayor got the win after allowing just one walk and no hits over four scoreless innings. She had three strikeouts.
