SAN DIEGO -

SDSU 2, UNLV 1

The San Diego State softball team completed a series sweep with a 2-1 victory over UNLV on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. It was the fifth consecutive win for the Aztecs, who finished the regular season with a 35-18 overall record and 13-5 mark in Mountain West play.

SDSU, which clinched its sixth MW title in a 7-0 win over the Rebels (21-31, 7-11 MW) on Friday night, will find out Sunday night at 7 p.m. PT (ESPNU) where it will be heading for the NCAA tournament.

San Diego State jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a groundout by senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.). She then scored when junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) singled up the middle.

The Aztecs added a run in the third as Jackson scored on a single through the right side by senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.).

UNLV halved the lead in the sixth when Heather Harrison's single plated Tayler Aleman. With runners on first and second, SDSU senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.), however, got Alyssa Cordova to lineout to freshman shortstop Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) to end the threat. Arbino would then retire the Rebels in order to secure the win for San Diego State.

For the game, Arbino (20-12) allowed one run on six hits and a walk over seven innings. She struck out five.

Corder had two hits in her final home game and finished the weekend 5-for-9 (.556) with three runs. Only junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) (4-for-7 (.571), 2 HR, 7 RBI, 3 BB) hit for a higher average in the Aztecs' weekend sweep.

Jordan reached three times with a single, walk and hit by pitch, and had a run and two stolen bases, while Jackson recorded a single, RBI, run and walk. Kamerin May added a single, RBI and walk and senior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) singled in her final game at SDSU Softball Stadium.
