Bauer Sets RBI Record in Softball's 3-1 Win vs USD

SAN DIEGO - Junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) had a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning to break San Diego State softball's all-time RBI record in a 3-1 victory over San Diego Wednesday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. It was the 11th consecutive win for the Aztecs, who improved to 23-12 on the season and 52-3 all-time against the Toreros (17-19).

Bauer's one-out single scored junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) and sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) to give her 119 RBIs for her career, two more than Justeen Maeva (2010-12). Bauer later scored on a single by freshman Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS), giving SDSU all the runs it would need in the game.

Jordan finished with two hits for San Diego State, while Mathis was 1-for-1 with a run and three walks. Senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) walked twice, and senior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) and senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.) also added singles.

Freshman Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits and two walks over seven innings. The left-hander struck out three to improve to 9-5 on the season.

San Diego's lone run came in the third when Caitlin Rooney's single to center field scored Kylie Ordos.

The Aztecs, who are 3-0 in MW play and are receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, begin a nine-game road trip this weekend with a three-game series at Nevada. SDSU will play the Wolf Pack (21-15, 1-2 MW) at 3 p.m. PT Friday, 1 p.m. PT Saturday and 1 p.m. PT Sunday.

NOTES: San Diego State improved to 16-0 this season when leading after five innings, 21-2 when outhitting its opponent, 20-4 when scoring first, 23-5 when leading at any point in the game and 22-5 when scoring at least two runs ... DP Lorena Bauer got her 118th and 119th RBIs in the 132nd game of her career. Justeen Maeva had her 117 RBIs in 155 contests ... Bauer is also the all-time Aztec leader in home runs (36) and extra-base hits (69) ... LHP Danielle O'Toole had gone 22 innings without allowing a run until the two-out RBI single by the Toreros' Caitlin Rooney in the third inning ... O'Toole threw just her second wild pitch of the season (101 2/3 innings) ... As a team, SDSU has just six wild pitches this year after combining for 142 (20.3 per season) over the last seven campaigns ... LF Kayla Jordan had her 12th multi-hit game of the season, which ranks third on the team.
