SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State softball team was unable to complete a three-game sweep in a 4-0 loss to Fresno State Sunday at SDSU Softball Stadium. Despite the setback, the Aztecs (30-17) remain in first place in Mountain West play at 8-4.

The Bulldogs (27-22, 8-7 MW) got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning when Kapri Angotti's bases loaded infield single scored Stesha Brazil in a close play at the plate.

FS tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth, thanks in part to two SDSU errors. Fresno State's first run came when Michelle Solomon's double down the right field line plated Diane Runge. Next up was Brazil, who grounded weakly to San Diego State senior first baseman Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.). May tried to get Vonnie Martin at home, but her throw hit the ground and allowed Martin to score. Paige Gumz' groundout to freshman shortstop Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) that scored Solomon sealed the 4-0 win for the Bulldogs.

The Aztecs had plenty of chances to score, but were unable to come up with the big hit. SDSU failed to score with runners on first and third and no outs in the first, after a leadoff double in the fourth and with two runners on and two outs in the fifth. FS pitcher Jillian Compton retired the final seven San Diego State batters she faced.

Senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits (seven singles) over six innings. Arbino (17-11), who had a one-hitter through 4 1/3 innings, struck out four. Freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) pitched the seventh inning, giving up a hit and a walk, while striking out one.

A day after going 3-for-4, sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) led the Aztecs once again with two hits, while junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) doubled and walked and senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.) singled and walked.

SDSU travels to Colorado State in a key three-game series, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. MT. The Rams (21-22) are in second place in the MW at 7-5.

NOTES: San Diego State was shut out for just the fifth time this season and first time in 25 games (last time was March 9 against No. 6/6 California (L, 0-1)) ... LF Kayla Jordan recorded her 16th multi-hit game of the season (tied for second on team) ... DP Lorena Bauer had her 35th career double, which is tied for second on the Aztec all-time list (also Monica Alnes (2006-07, 08-09)), one behind Brittany Knudsen (2007-10).
