SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State softball team remained in sole possession of first place in the Mountain West with a 3-2 victory over Fresno State Saturday at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs improved to 30-16 on the season and 8-3 in league play, while the Bulldogs dropped to 26-22 and 7-7.

After FS took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Vonnie Martin that scored Brenna Moss, SDSU tied it in the second when senior Tiffany Corder's (San Clemente, Calif.) sacrifice fly plated freshman Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS).

The score would remain 1-1 until the fourth, when San Diego State loaded the bases with one out for the third time of the game on back-to-back singles by sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) and Corder, and an intentional walk to junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.). Senior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) then ripped a ground-rule double to left-center field to score both Jordan and Corder and put the Aztecs up by a 3-1 margin.

Fresno State got one back in the fifth when Whitney Smith, who reached on an error, scored on a Brenna Moss single.

SDSU freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.), however, retired seven of the final eight Bulldogs she faced to clinch the win. For the game, O'Toole (12-6) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits over seven innings. She struck out three without issuing a walk.

Jordan had three hits, a run and a stolen base for San Diego State, which outhit FS, 9-5, for the game. Bauer had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Corder had an RBI, run and single. Jackson, who yesterday was 3-for-3 with two homers, a double and five RBIs in the Aztecs' 5-3 win over Fresno State, reached all four times with three walks (two intentional) and a hit by pitch.

SDSU and the Bulldogs wrap up the three-game series at 1 p.m. PT Sunday.
