RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Despite matching its collective score from the previous day, the San Diego State women's golf team slipped one notch into fourth place on Friday during the second round of the 2013 Mountain West Championships at Mission Hills Country Club. With their performance, the Aztecs find themselves at 48-over 624 for the event after shooting a second consecutive 312 on the par-72, 6,324-yard Dinah Shore Tournament Course.

Individually, senior Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C) and sophomore Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.) are the leaders for SDSU through 36 holes after both landed in a tie for seventh at 8-over 152. Although she carded four bogeys on the back nine, Wong still managed to climb six spots on the leaderboard after posting a team-low 74 for the day, highlighted by birdies on the par-3 No. 8 and the par-4 13th.

Not to be outdone, Spiranac rebounded nicely from a stretch of five bogeys over her first 12 holes to finish with a second straight 76. The Arizona native closed with a flurry, notching five straight pars followed by a birdie on the toughest hole of the tournament thus far, the par-5, 521-yard 18th.

Meanwhile, freshman Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden), who began the day tied for second, was unable to maintain her momentum from the opening round, slipping nine places into a four-way tie for 11th at 11-over 155. Henrikson's day was plagued by seven bogeys and a double-bogey en route to a disappointing 81.

Elsewhere, sophomore Kristina Lynn (Carlsbad, Calif.) also notched an 81 during the second round, finishing the day in a tie for 33rd at 21-over 165. Lynn got off to a smooth start, notching 11 straight pars before suffering three double-bogeys and two bogeys over her final six holes.

Rounding out the Aztec delegation was sophomore Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.), who shaved eight strokes off her total from Thursday en route to an 84.

Nevada's Nikki Prichard (+4) owns a one-shot lead over Mayko Chwen Chang of UNLV (+5), who posted a tournament-low 69 on Friday, while teammate Demi Mak, Manon DeRoey of New Mexico and Boise State's Hayley Young are all tied for third at 6-over.

UNLV (+28) rocketed from fourth place to the top of the team standings after firing a second-round 290, while Boise State (+38) and Fresno State (+38) are tied for the second spot in the eight-school field.

The MW Championships conclude with final-round action on Saturday, as SDSU is scheduled to tee off with Nevada and Colorado State beginning at 8:20 a.m. PDT.
