REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The San Diego State women's rowing team swept all races on Saturday after facing both UC Davis and Santa Clara at the annual NorCal/SoCal Challenge. The Aztecs competed in morning and afternoon races on the opening day of the annual round-robin dual contest.
Action got underway Saturday morning at 11:10 am with SDSU's Varsity 8 boat opening competition against UC Davis. The Varsity 8 crew took the race with a time of seven minutes, 7.8 seconds. The Aztecs would dominate the Aggies in the next three consecutive races. In the Second Varsity 8 showdown, San Diego State clocked in at 7:22.1. The Varsity 4 duel saw SDSU post a time of 8:27.4. In the only race the Novice 8 boat will see on the weekend, the crew notched recorded a time of 7:19.0.
San Diego State got back in the water later Saturday afternoon to face Santa Clara. Once again, the Aztecs would sweep each outing against the Broncos. The Varsity 8 boat came in 7:20.1, while the Second Varsity 8 notched a 7:44.5 and the Varsity 4 clocked in at 8:50.4.
"It was a very exciting day to see the Aztecs sweep all races," said head coach Alison Abrams.
San Diego State will conclude competition and put its perfect weekend on the line at the NorCal/SoCal Challenge tomorrow when it faces Saint Mary's beginning at 10:30 am.
