SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team tied a school record with three triples in a 4-1 win at San Diego Tuesday night at USD Softball Complex. The Aztecs improved to 27-14 with the non-conference win and are now 53-3 all-time against the Toreros (19-22).

The three triples by senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.), sophomore Kaitlin Connors (San Diego/La Costa Canyon HS) and sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) equaled the program's previous mark of three set on Feb. 6, 2003 against Point Loma Nazarene.

SDSU got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning when it loaded the bases with no outs. After a strikeout, redshirt freshman Victoria Kobold's (Concord, Calif.) fielder's choice grounder to the USD shortstop got senior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) out in between second and third base, but scored senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) from third. A fly out would end the inning and leave two runners on base.

San Diego took advantage of two San Diego State errors in the third to tie the game at 1-1. The run came when Mary Grabowski's fielder's choice grounder to Aztec freshman shortstop Monica Downey (San Diego/Madison HS) allowed Chloe Kaneko to score from third.

SDSU took the lead for good in the sixth as Connors ripped a pinch-hit triple off the right-center field wall to score Downey. Jordan then followed with a single through the right side to score Kobold, who came back into the game for Connors at third.

In the seventh, Corder led off with a triple and scored one batter later on a wild pitch to put San Diego State up, 4-1.

Aztec senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) then retired the Toreros in order in the seventh to clinch the win for the visitors. For the game, Arbino (16-9) allowed one unearned run on five hits and a walk over seven innings, while striking out eight batters.

Jordan had two hits to pace the SDSU offense, while Kamerin May had a single, walk and run scored.

San Diego State wraps up its season-long nine-game road trip this weekend with a three-game Mountain West series at Boise State, beginning at 3 p.m. PT Friday.
