FRESNO, Calif. - The San Diego State softball team bounced back from a 1-0 loss to No. 6/6 California with a 7-0 victory over Saint Mary's Saturday at the Fresno State Classic in Fresno, Calif.

In the nightcap, freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) tossed a complete game four-hit shutout in the Aztecs' (12-11) win over the Gaels (4-14). O'Toole allowed just five baserunners (four singles and a hit batter) and did not issue a walk. Only one SMC player reached scoring position in the game.

SDSU provided O'Toole with five runs in the top of the third inning, one in the fourth and one more in the sixth.

Sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) had a double, triple, an RBI and two runs to pace the San Diego State offense. Freshman Kayla Bufardeci (Castro Valley, Calif.) had two singles and an RBI, while junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) had a double, walk and run scored. Seniors Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) and Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) each added an RBI.

In the opener, the Bears' (18-2) Khala Taylor singled home Jolene Henderson with two outs in the top of the seventh for the only run of the game.

Aztec senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) was the tough luck loser after allowing one run on seven hits and a walk over seven innings, while striking out three. Arbino (7-6) held Cal hitless for 3 2/3 innings, a day after tossing 6 1/3 innings of no-hit ball and striking out 15 against Iowa State.

SDSU only had one hit off Henderson, a leadoff triple in the bottom of the second by Bauer. San Diego State, however, was unable to capitalize and went in order with three straight groundouts.

The Aztecs wrap up their play in the Fresno State Classic Sunday with a game against No. 23/rv Oregon State at 9 a.m. PT.
