FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) hit a walkoff grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the San Diego State softball team a 7-4 win over Iowa State and doubleheader split Friday at the Fresno State Classic in Fresno, Calif. The Aztecs (11-10) later lost to No. 9/8 Oregon, 3-2, on a walkoff drag bunt single.

In the opener, senior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) had a no-hitter through 6 1/3 innings before Tori Torrescano tied the game at 1-1 with a solo homer with one out in the top of the seventh. SDSU had taken the lead in the fourth when junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) belted her sixth homer of the season.

Each team scored a run in the eighth with the international tiebreaker in effect with San Diego State scoring its run when senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) hit a two-out single through the middle to plate redshirt freshman Victoria Kobold (Concord, Calif.).

Torrescano came through again for the Cyclones (9-9) in the top of the ninth with a two-run home run to give ISU the 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) was placed on second because of the international tiebreaker and senior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) replaced her at second with a double down the left field line. After a strikeout, senior Tiffany Corder (San Clemente, Calif.) had a pinch-hit single up the middle to put runners at the corners. Iowa State brought in reliever Madison Jones, who walked Kobold on four pitches after Corder stole second. Jordan then cleared the bases on a 2-1 pitch with a grand slam down the right field line.

It was Jordan's fourth home run of the season and the Aztecs' first walkoff win of the season.

Bauer was a triple short of the cycle (single, double and home run) to lead SDSU, which outhit the Cyclones, 13-4 in the game. Jackson, Jordan and the May twins (Kamerin and Kristin) each added two hits apiece.

Arbino (7-5) got the well-deserved win for San Diego State after striking out a career-high 15 batters over nine innings. The 15 strikeouts are tied for the second most in a game in program history. The right-hander allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits without issuing a walk.

In the nightcap, the No. 9/8 Ducks (3-2) used a walkoff drag bunt single by Courtney Ceo to score pinch runner Sara Goodrum to get the 3-2 win.

The Aztecs had battled back from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the third. SDSU loaded the bases with two outs on walks by freshman Leia Ruiz (Chino, Calif.), Jordan and junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.). Kamerin May then singled through the left side to score Ruiz and, after she saw the UO catcher throw to second, Jordan in a heads-up running play. Bauer followed with a single to load the bases, but Oregon All-American pitcher Jessica Moore replaced Cheridan Hawkins and got senior Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) to ground out.

The score would remain 2-2 until the bottom of the seventh when Janelle Lindvall (single) and Alyssa Gillespie (error) each reached with no outs. Goodrum replaced Lindvall at second and it appeared San Diego State was going to get out of the inning after freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) got Janie Takeda to ground into a double play. Ceo, however, used a drag bunt on a 1-1 pitch to plate Goodrum with the game-winning run.

Bauer, Jackson and Kamerin May each singled for the Aztecs, who were outhit, 10-3, by the Ducks. Bauer, Jordan, Mathis and Ruiz also reached via walk.

O'Toole (4-5) took the loss after scattering three runs (two earned) on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings. She struck out five.

SDSU continues its play in the Fresno State Classic Saturday with games against No. 6/6 California (3:45 p.m. PT) and Saint Mary's (6 p.m. PT).
