Bruin Wave Invite Day One Results

TARZANA, Calif. - The San Diego State women's golf team is in eighth place after recording a collective 55-over par 631 on Monday during the first two rounds of the fourth annual Bruin Wave Invitational in Tarzana, Calif. The Aztecs, who carded a 321 over the first 18 holes, shaved a combined 11 strokes off their total with a 310 during the afternoon session to climb four spots from the 12th position at the par-72, 6,131-yard El Caballero Country Club.

Individually, freshman Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden) and sophomore transfer Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.) each fired a 10-over 154 to finish in a tie for 21st out of 81 golfers on identical rounds of 78 and 76. Henrikson sank four birdies on the day, while Spiranac drained three, as both players jumped 10 places in the afternoon.

In addition, Christine Wong (Richmond, British Columbia) trimmed three strokes off her opening round to move into a tie for the 47th spot with a combined 17-over 161. After opening with an 82, the SDSU senior and defending tournament championship logged a 79 in the second round, finishing with seven pars over her last nine holes. Meanwhile, Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.) sits one shot in back of Wong at 18-over 162 after carding rounds of 83 and 79. The Aztec sophomore notched four birdies on the day, including one on her final hole, the par-5 No. 7, to wind up in a tie for the 53rd position.

Rounding out SDSU's starting lineup was junior Maureen Dunnagan (Lexington, S.C.), who ended the day in 76th after posting a 29-over 173. Elsewhere, Aztec junior Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.), who entered the field as an individual competitor, finds herself in a tie for 57th after posting a 19-over 163 on rounds of 80 and 83.

UCLA (+7) sits atop the team standings after day one, eight shots in front of USC (+15), while Arizona (+23), Pepperdine (+35) and Oklahoma State (+40) round out the top five. The Bruins also sport the individual leader in Lee Lopez, who shot a 2-under 142 on Monday to open up a two-stroke advantage over the Women of Troy's Annie Park (E).

Final round action at the Bruin Wave Invitational gets underway for SDSU on Tuesday with a 7:30 a.m. tee time on hole No. 1. The Aztecs will be paired with fellow Mountain West member New Mexico and Long Beach State.
