RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - The San Diego State women's golf team finds itself in a tie for ninth place after firing a collective 23-over 311 on Sunday during the opening round of the inaugural SDSU Farms Invitational at The Farms Golf Club. The Aztecs, who share the ninth spot with Texas A&M, are just two strokes behind eighth-place Miami (+21) and are four shots in back of California (+19) for the seventh position on the par-72, 6,211-yard layout, heading into Monday's second round.

SDSU was paced by freshman Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden) and sophomore transfer Paige Spiranac (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who both carded rounds of 76 to tie for 19th place on the individual leaderboard. Henrikson's day was highlighted by two birdies and an eagle on the par-5 ninth, while Spiranac drained back-to-back birdies on the front nine, the par-3 fifth and the par-4 sixth.

In addition, senior Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.) trails Henrikson and Spiranac by one stroke after shooting an opening-round 77. Wong recorded a team-best 12 pars on the day to go with four bogeys, a birdie and a double-bogey to finish in a 10-way tie for 25th.

Rounding out SDSU's starting lineup were sophomores Kristina Lynn (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Amy Alston (Mission Viejo, Calif.). Despite sinking two birdies on the front nine, Lynn settled for an 82 to tie for the 55th spot, while Alston wound up in a tie for 77th after notching an 88.

The Aztec delegation also included two individual competitors, as junior Maureen Dunnagan (Lexington, S.C.) ended the day tied for 55th with teammate Lynn after firing an 82, while fellow classmate Rebecca Schneider (Cave Creek, Ariz.) shot an 87 to tie for 74th.

USC (+10) sits atop the team standings after the first day of competition, maintaining a four-stroke advantage over UNLV (+14), while Texas (+15), Pepperdine (+15) are tied for the fourth position, followed by Northwestern (+17), which occupies the fifth slot.

Northwestern's Hana Lee was the lone individual to finish in red figures on Sunday, posting a 2-under 70 to open up a two-stroke lead over Manon Gidali of Arizona (E) and USC's Kyung Kim (E), while four golfers are tied for the fourth spot at 1-over, including Liv Cheng of Pepperdine, Long Beach State's Shawnee Martinez, Kaitlin Park of Northwestern and California's Hannah Suh.

The SDSU Farms Invitational resumes Monday with second-round action, as the Aztecs are scheduled to tee off with New Mexico and Long Beach State on hole No. 10, beginning at 8:18 a.m. PT.
