Aztecs Down New Mexico, 13-6, in Series Finale

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - San Diego State scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to break and 2-2 deadlock and the Aztecs went on to claim a 13-6 victory over New Mexico Saturday afternoon in Albuquerque.

The rally helped SDSU salvage a win on the series finale with the Lobos as the improved to 13-14 overall and 5-4 in the Mountain West. UNM, meanwhile, saw its record fall to 13-13 (6-3 MW).

New Mexico broke on top early, taking a 2-0 lead with single runs in both the first and second innings. San Diego State countered with single markers of tis own in the third and fifth to tie the score.

Aztec starting pitcher Ryan Doran went five innings allowing the two runs on 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts. His team's outburst in the top of the sixth would make him the game's winning hurler as he improved to 4-2 on the year.

SDSU sent 13 men to the plate in their eight-run sixth inning. Their rally included five hits, three walks and a hit batter. Six different players drove in runs and included a two-run single by Ty France and a two-RBI double by Matt Muñoz as the Aztecs took a 10-2 lead.

Although New Mexico came back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but San Diego Stat responded with three in its half of the seventh on Ryan Muno's RBI double to right and Mitch Bluman's two-run double to the same field.

Muno, France and Jake Romanski finished with three hits apiece for SDSU as eight of its nine players had at least one. Mitch Bluman recorded three RBI while teammates Tim Zier, Munoz sand France drive in a pair of runs each.

The Aztecs will have a day off before they return to action on Monday (April 1) for a game against UC Riverside at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
